Love Your Writing
I so enjoyed your writing style. (Information on Scotland was wonderful too.) I read part of it to my husband, who is also a writer. We laughed and he kept commenting, “He’s really good.”

We are planning a month’s stay in the Outer Hebrides, roaming around Scotland from there – Dwight, to photograph and write about stone circles and me to act as sherpa and paint. I found your blog by searching “when is the worst time for midges in Scotland” – we will be arriving mid June.

We didn’t even know about them (midges) until a fellow we met at a hostel told us about abandoning his camp and all his gear fleeing the midges. With all the wind we encountered, we figured we’d be safe making the Hebrides our base. Anyway, thanks again for your writing. I can only imagine how delightful it would be to visit with you, chatting over tea. Thank you again for sharing your love for your homeland.

I’ve discovered your website a few days ago when looking for “I-don’t-remember-what-information-regarding-our-summer-trip-to-Scotland”. I’ve been extensively, and compulsively, reading everything you’ve written here, often sharing the bits of sarcastic writing with my husband sitting on the desk opposite mine.

I can’t thank you enough for all you’ve shared ! I found great ideas for our trip, and it cemented the idea that we HAVE to go to Orkney. I am in stitches. It has made my journey all the more adventuresome and enjoyable. We are partaking in nearly every part of Scotland, hiring a car and traveling full circle with stops at B&Bs and less touristy destinations.

We do our research. I thought I’d say thank you because I’m sure you don’t hear it enough. (Johanna, I think in another century your relatives may have ousted mine. I’m a descendant of the Mac/McQueens up in Inverness & Outer Hebrides. Still, I think we’d get along just fine today.)
